How to Draw Scars Anime
Are you willing to improve your art skills up to the highest level ever? Then you should practice your drawing on an everyday basis; moreover, you need to try as more new techniques as you can. In particular, you should always develop drawing a human or details related to them. In fact, this kind of drawing is considered to be aerobatics among types of art. That is why WoWPencils has created a step-by-step guide of how to draw scars on face and make it realistic and easy as much as possible.
What Kind of Drawing Tools Are Needed?
Before starting a tutorial and revealing necessary tips, let's take a look at the list of tools you will require for your drawing. For sure, there is a huge variety of tool combinations that are usually used by artists for similar purposes. But, in particular, according to this tutorial, you will need only basic instrument such as a pencil. However, actually, there should be 2 pencils of different levels of softness: HB and B3. As you might have known, they differ from each other, and typically, the softer pencil B3 is used for giving more depth thanks to blacker lead.
In addition to the main set of tools, you will also need some auxiliary instruments: an eraser and a shading tool. However, you should never forget about the surface where you will apply your drawing to. In particular, you need to have a piece of paper, or better, even a whole pad. So you can practice and not be nervous about screwing up the picture. Once it happens, you can simply replace a spoiled piece with a new one.
If it's your first drawing, and you have never worked with a big amount of pictures, especially when they suddenly disappear, then it's better to have all of them in one place. One of the best options for this is to keep them all in a sketchbook.
Draw Balance Lines
Never neglect the basic steps of preparation. In particular, before you start drawing something, you should make some guidelines on the paper. They will help you not to lose the sense of measurement, but instead, they will always help you identify the real sizes and stick to a balance in your picture.
Thus, you need to make 2 simple lines with pencil: vertical and horizontal. Both of them have to cross in the middle of the paper page. Later you will see how good they are for keeping the right proportion.
Face Oval Drawing
The next step is more delicate than the previous one. Here you should apply your gained skills in drawing human appearance, especially facial features. However, if you are not familiar with this, don't be afraid, and just follow the recommendations given here.
So you should sketch a circle by narrowing down at the bottom. The next is to "squeeze" the circle at temple area on the right and on the left, but widen at cheekbone area. Later, all the details will be made more vivid than they are at this stage.
Add Eyes and Nose
This step is not least since here you will add more details so the face can be more obvious. For that purpose, you need to draw another horizontal line but it has to be above the main one. As you might have already guessed, this line is a baseline for eyes. So now, you can draw them, but remember that the width between the two eyes is equal to the width of one eye. Slightly above the eyes, you can also add contours of eyebrows. Add them a classic shape and make them of medium size.
The next things are the nose and its details. So let's start with the nose bridge, which is between the eyes. Then, draw the nostrils. And here's a useful tip: the length of the nose between the nose bridge and nostrils is equal to the width of 2 eyes, and the width of nostrils is slightly smaller than the width of an eye. The nose itself should be of medium size, too.
Illustrate Lips and Hair
This stage moves us to a lower part of the face. Here you should connect the shape of the lips. However, according to the previous steps, this one also requires additional preparation. That is why you need to draw light small lines that identify the upper and the lower curves of the lips. Between them, you can draw the shape of the lips. Remember that the upper lip is typically thinner than the lower one, and in order to add a natural look, you should draw a skin fold in the middle of the lower lip.
Once the lips get the look that resembles the real ones, it's time to move on to the hair. Here you shouldn't overdo. The more strokes, the better. Thus, in the temple area, make some light wavy strokes in order to make the border of hair growth. Then, add some delicate hair strands at the temples from both sides.
Start Drawing Realistic Scars
Finally, we've approached the stage that was the target of this tutorial – to draw scars on skin. There won't be a bleeding wound but a healed scar, and, by the way, it's not so difficult to illustrate it on paper as it seems.
As usual, you should start with contouring the scar shapes. One is on a cheek, another is at the same level as the eyes are. Moreover, the scar will cross one of the eyes along with brows.
Particular detail in drawing needs more attention; therefore, you should apply appropriate pencils.
Not everyone likes to work with a wooden pencil but with a mechanical one. If you are one of those, you might want to check the review of cool mechanical pencils.
Face Toning
Here is one of the important stages in your picture. Essentially, you need to add a more realistic look to the whole face. Thus, shade the scar contours by making light strokes. Leave some light areas between the scars. And the tip that concerns realistic scars lies in the fact the scar borders shouldn't be even; over against, the more uneven borders, the better.
Don't forget to emphasize the eyebrows, eye pupils, lips, and eyelashes by making them denser.
Final Shading
The final stage is the most creative part of this picture. Here you will add depth and shape the whole face with light strokes. More pressure and a dark tone should be applied on the forehead area, cheekbones, the area under the nose and chin. Once you finish this activity, you will notice the obvious volume of the face.
You should also add a darker tone around the scars. As for the area of the head where hair grows, it also should be covered with the darker tone. Then, add some precise wavy lines that will emphasize wavy hair. Then you can apply a soft B3 pencil, and, if necessary, use tissue for art.
In Conclusion
Of course, nobody can produce the best results at the first drawing, especially when it concerns human appearance that is considered to be the most difficult in art. Thus, don't be upset, and if you don't like your first picture, then check it and try to fix all the mistakes you made. Once all of them are found and fixed, try to draw this again until you get the result you desired.
Anyway, hopefully, this tutorial was quite simple to follow, and it made you create. And if you like this, perhaps, you will also enjoy the other tutorials from the series "How to Draw…". WoWPencils is glad when its visitors are enjoying, too.
